The first 24 Hours of Le Mans race was held on this day, May 26, in 1923. So of course we celebrate the day by dreaming of going back in time with a racer from the 21st Century.
What LMP and GT car from our time would you bring to 1920's France? I assure you that each car’s crew will be with you, as well as period-correct civilian outfits, period-adapted town fair-style demonstrators of the machines and tools, and race supplies, fuel, and basic provisions that will last two years.

The current R18! They wouldn’t know what hit them.

I feel like a Ford Escort could put up a good fight with the cars from 1923.
So a Ford Escort.

“Standard of the World”
Plus the .com thing would really throw them.

I’m more partial to the R15 Plus.
It traveled 5,410.7 km, over twice the distance the ‘23 winner logged in a much longer layout in the same 24-hour period.

Probably just a GT2 911. Certainly Ferdinand Porsche already had some beetle prototypes laying around so it’d be the most plausible car in 1923. Otherwise you'd be imprisoned as a witch.

I’m going to stretch the timeframe slightly and go with a Peugeot 905. The new cars are amazing, but these were the fastest ever seen, and look sufficiently Space Age. The shock value of 1923 France seeing what their little bicycle maker would go on to can’t be overlooked either.
Or the ‘88 WM-Peugeot, for the same reasons. This is actually the fastest ever.

I think so, too, yes. And if there’s anything, it would probably be the bigger history-changer of any cars that can be suggested and taken to 1923. I can already imagine the faces of the Peugeot shop employees when they see this car with the name Peugeot on it, and the ripples in historical events would be immense!
Also, it’s more reliable than the 908, so there’s that, though I kind of feel that this marque’s crew would push a little harder than it realistically could.

I’d take a Jaguar XJR-14, an 11,000 RPM Ford F1 V8 and some awesome looks, or a Sauber-Mercedes C11.
